In the fast-paced world of grocery retail, ensuring products are always available on the shelf is crucial for maintaining customer satisfaction and boosting sales. Rimi Baltic, a leading grocery retailer in the Baltics, partnered with Envelope to implement the innovative enRetail platform, which uses artificial intelligence and security cameras to optimize shelf management. This collaboration aimed to tackle common retail challenges like out-of-shelf occurrences and improve operational efficiency.

The results of the enRetail pilot at a Rimi Baltic supermarket were impressive. During the six-month pilot, monitored products saw an 8.7% sales increase compared to the previous year, with a significant 5.9% increase even after excluding statistical outliers. On-shelf availability (OSA) rose by 2.09%, reaching an average of 98.74%, while out-of-shelf (OOSh) durations decreased by 62.66%. These improvements were achieved without adding extra staff, showcasing the platform’s efficiency in enhancing shelf management. Although the pilot primarily addressed situations where products were in stock but not on shelves, it also revealed potential for the platform to further aid in improving inventory accuracy and demand forecasting.

Store staff provided valuable feedback on enRetail’s impact, noting improved awareness of shelf stock during peak hours and a reduction in customer complaints.

While there were challenges, such as the need for manual planogram changes and occasional false positives, the overall response was positive. Envelope is actively working to address these concerns, ensuring the platform becomes even more user-friendly. The successful pilot with Rimi Baltic demonstrates enRetail’s potential to revolutionize grocery retail by enhancing product availability and customer experience.
